I had a very interesting conversation with a friend and he turned me on to the idea of drop shipping. I'm sure there are many Internet entrepreneurs who have tried this type of marketing. Until now, I never fully understood the term but after doing a bit of research I can see that the concept is very simple. Basically a drop shipper is a whole seller or manufacture to is willing to ship out their product to any customer that you have found. This allows you to run your online shop without having any inventory at all. You basically act like a middleman between the manufacturer and the customer. The concept is very simple but as I read more about it, I can see that the hard part is finding out where one can find a reliable drop shipper and not get scammed. So far I have done very limited research into this field but from what I've discovered, here are some useful sources of information about drop shippers. One website I discovered is called www.alibaba.com. It's a fairly straightforward and simple website where all you have to do is make an account and then you can contact the manufacturers or wholesalers directly. I have actually contacted two companies so I will see what the response might be. Another great source that a friend told me about was www.worldwidebrands.com. They offer their full service and information for a hefty price of about $500. It seems like a lot a reputable companies such as eBay endorse them however, I am not about to go out and spend this kind of money. At least not at this point in the game.
What I am going to do is try to find a manufacturer who sells products that I find particularly interesting. One product that I find interesting off hand would be to sell electronic synthesizers as I already have a website devoted to vintage synthesizers such as the Moog, Arp and Korg brands. Perhaps somebody out there would like to get in touch with me about selling their musical equipment. I am really new to all this, so it would be hard for me to trust anybody at the beginning, but if I find a company that is honest, and if it's a product I'm interested in, I would go for it. So if anybody out there is interested in allowing me to sell their product, get in touch with me by all means. Just post me a comment on my digg or stumble post.
