Last night I was blown away when I saw this cult movie from the 1970s called Westworld. The movie start Yul Brenner who was famous for such movies as the magnificent seven and the King and I. anyway I was amazed when I saw this movie because I kept thinking about how many other movies were similar to this one. I cant believe I have never heard of this movie before. He was such a truly amazing find. I was only able to watch the last half on TV as I missed the first half but I've looked on youtube and I was actually able to find the whole movie there cut up into 10 minute segments. Anyway this movie had a very cool early 1970s by two at. It was actually done by the person who also created the scripts for or should I say stories for Jurassic Park and the Andromeda strain. I believe his name is Michael Crichton.

This movie Westwood started off sometime in the future I believe. Basically travelers are bored with the typical European adventure and would prefer to experience every creation of a world from the past. There are three lands to choose from, Roman world media world and every creation of the wild West and the United States.

Anyway fast forwarding to the last half the movie there is an incredible chase scene with Yul Brenner and one of the other characters in the story. If you see the movie you'll know what I mean. This last sequence reminded me of so many different movies but specifically most would agree the Terminator owes a lot to this movie. Also there were a couple scenes that really reminded me of another Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, predator. Basically this robot views things much the same way the characters in the other movies viewed things. Through a skewed pixilated type vision of the world. When I heard some commentary about the movie when it had ended they mentioned that this was one of the world's first movies that used computer-generated images. I can only imagine how progressive this must have been for the time. This pixilated digital type imagery truly fascinated me. Also the music soundtrack was very engaging and different to say the least. It used a number of strange electronic instruments. When I hear music soundtracks from these early 1970s films I am truly amazed how different and unique they are by today's standards. This was a very short-lived period in cinema, but I am very interested to explore more films of this era.

Speaking of musical soundtracks, the soundtrack for the original Terminator movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger was quite amazing as well it used a number of polyphonic analog synthesizer sounds that sound a bit dated today that added quite a nice mood and feel to the movie.

The next movie I want to check out is the Andromeda strain. This is another Michael Crichton movie adopted from one of his books. I saw some clips on you to and again I was amazed by the unique sounding soundtrack. I can truly here analog synthesizers within the soundtrack.

Cult films from the 1970s are truly unique and I hope to explore them all as I find the time. I highly recommend Westworld as it is still a very entertaining movie if viewed today.
